Inflation Rises 0.5pc in November 2024 in Oman

Muscat,

– The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 0.5% in November 2024 compared to the same month in 2023 for the base year 2018, according to data from the Consumer Price Index in the Sultanate of Oman issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The data indicated an increase in the prices of miscellaneous goods and services groups by 5.5%, health by 3.2%, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.9%, recreation and culture by 0.7%, restaurants and hotels by 0.7%, clothing and footwear by 0.5%, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.3%, and education by 0.1%.

In contrast, there was a decrease in the prices of the transport group by 2.8%. The prices of the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel groups, communications group and tobacco group remained stable.

In the food and non-alcoholic beverages group, the prices of vegetables increased by 11%, milk, cheese and eggs by 5.4%, fruits by 4.7%, oils and fats by 2.4%, sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and candy by 2.4%, meat by 2%, other food products by 1.7% and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.1%. The prices of fish and seafood decreased by 10.4%, and cereals and breads by 0.5%.

At the governorates level, Musandam Governorate recorded the highest inflation rate at the end of November 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, as the index increased by 1.4%. It also increased by 1.2% in South A’Sharqiyah Governorate, 0.9% in Al Wusta Governorate and 0.6% in Al Buraimi Governorate.

In the governorates of Muscat, North A’Sharqiyah, A’Dhahirah, and A’Dakhiliyah, the rate increased by 0.5% each. The rate increased by 0.4% in Dhofar Governorate and by 0.2% in North Al Batinah Governorate. Inflation rate decreased by 0.3% in South Al Batinah Governorate.
