Oman and Switzerland Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation with Multiple Memoranda of Understanding

Muscat,

The Sultanate of Oman and the Swiss Confederation signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in Muscat to enhance collaboration in various sectors, under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Alan Persie, President of the Swiss Confederation, during his official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

The MoUs, signed by both parties, encompassed areas such as sustainable and renewable energy and its technologies, tourism, healthcare, capacity building, as well as diplomatic studies and training.

The MoU in the field of sustainable and renewable energy and its technologies, signed by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, aims to develop bilateral cooperation in sustainable and renewable energy. It focuses on collaboration in green hydrogen projects related to production, processing, storage, and consumption, in addition to knowledge and experience exchange regarding laws, regulations, and policies in this field.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed two MoUs; the first with the Geneva Center for Security Policy in the Swiss Confederation concerning diplomatic studies and training, and the second with the Swiss Federal Council regarding work permits for individuals accompanying official employees.

In the tourism sector, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism signed an MoU with the Swiss Tourism Board to enhance collaboration between the two sides and exchange expertise and knowledge in this field.

Regarding healthcare and capacity building, the Ministry of Health signed an MoU with the Swiss company “F. Hoffmann-La Roche,” aiming to develop joint strategic cooperation to provide better healthcare results. It also adopts the “Career Start” program to equip local talents with the required skills in pharmacy and diagnosis.

The signing ceremony of the MoUs was attended by His Excellency Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health and Head of the honorary mission, His Excellency Ambassador Mahmoud bin Hamad Al-Hasani, the accredited Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Swiss Confederation, and His Excellency Dr. Thomas Ortli, the accredited Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to the Sultanate of Oman, along with several officials from both sides.
