The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is currently carrying out field work to survey the contribution of the digital economy to GDP for 2023 as part of national efforts to achieve the objectives of the National Digital Economy Programme.
The project is one of the strategic projects aimed at providing accurate data to support decision makers and policymakers in mapping out the future road map for Oman’s digital economy.
The survey aims to measure progress in achieving the objectives of the National Digital Economy Programme to raise the digital economy’s contribution to 10 per cent of GDP by 2040, as well as to provide a reliable scientific database on which to base economic studies and research. Regional and international comparisons of the digital economy’s contribution to the national economy in addition to providing researchers with the necessary statistics to support scientific studies in this field.
The survey relies on 2023 data as a major source of analysis to provide an accurate picture of the state of Oman’s digital economy during that period. which helps to assess progress and analyse future trends, This course’s survey targets private sector enterprises engaged in communications and information technology activities and financial and insurance services provided digitally only in their large, medium, small and small sizes.
The sample size is approximately 1,300 facilities spread across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
The survey will provide many important economic indicators, most notably the proportion of the digital economy’s contribution to GDP, the value added of ICT activities, the value added of financial and insurance activities provided digitally only, the average number of employees and average salary and wage expenditure, the value of operational and transfer expenditures, as well as the value of investment in assets and capital composition of targeted activities.
The digital economy is the future of sustainable development in the Sultanate of Oman. The survey will provide essential data to support decision makers and enable them to develop effective policies. The participation of targeted enterprises in this survey not only enhances the capacity of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology to measure the contribution of the digital economy, but also contributes to shaping Oman’s digital future.
