The total number of labour in the GCC countries, according to 2022 data, was about 31.8 million workers, making up 54.2% of the total population in the GCC countries by 78.7% males and 21.3% females.
Data released by the GCC Statistical Centre indicated that the number of GCC nationals of 5.6 million workers make up 17.6 per cent of the GCC’s total workforce by 60 per cent male and 40 per cent female.

e government sector remains the largest employee of the Gulf labour force with a wide area of settlement in the private sector, with 83.5 per cent of the Gulf labour force in the government sector compared to 14.2 per cent in the private sector and the Gulf labour force in the service sector where the largest proportion of public administration activity is based.
The GCC States had adopted strengthened Gulf labour resettlement policies, including the Gulf Common Market and Comprehensive Development, which were working to redress the imbalance in population composition, workforce composition and industrial development by increasing the contribution of national labour in the industry sector and the groundbreaking population strategy to enhance women’s role in development, balance demographics and workforce and increase the contribution and training of national labour forces.
All GCC States prioritize the young workforce while promoting economic diversification and the transition to green and environmentally friendly jobs.
