National Museum Hosts Italian Jewellery Exhibition

The National Museum, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Muscat, is currently hosting an exhibition titled “DIVA! Italian Glamour in Fashion Jewellery”, which highlights the beauty and creativity of Italian fashion.

The opening ceremony took place today under the patronage of HH Sayyidah Dr. Mona Fahad Al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Museum. The event was attended by individuals of interest in culture and artistry. The exhibition will run until 9 March, 2025.

Curated by Professor Alba Cappellieri, Professor of Jewellery Design at Politecnico di Milano and Director of the Vicenza Museum of Jewellery, and her team, the exhibition features more than (100) unique pieces of Italian fashion jewellery. These jewels reflect the aesthetic and cultural transformations in modern Italian jewellery, showcasing how the style has evolved over time in response to societal changes and technological advances in jewellery-making.

The exhibition celebrates the craftsmanship and creativity that define modern Italian jewellery, tracing its development from the 1950s to the present.

In his speech during the opening ceremony, Pierluigi D’Elia, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Sultanate of Oman, remarked: “The exhibition celebrates beauty, creativity, and Italian craftsmanship, highlighting how art transcends borders to create a global language that speaks of culture, harmony, innovation, and beauty.”

He added, “We are honoured to collaborate with the National Museum and Professor Alba Cappellieri to bring this unique exhibition to the Sultanate of Oman. We hope it inspires a deeper appreciation for the art and creativity of Italian jewellery”.

On his turn, Jamal Hassan Al Moosawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum, emphasized the importance of hosting “DIVA! Italian Glamour in Fashion Jewellery”. He noted that the exhibition embodies Italian beauty and creativity in the jewellery-making industry, craftsmanship, and the extraordinary blend of tradition with modernity which provides a significant opportunity to experience the unique Italian beauty.
