18th Annual GPCA Forum Kicks Off in Muscat

Muscat,

The 18th Annual Forum of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) began in Muscat today under the auspices of Sheikh Dr. Ali Masoud Al Sunaidy, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ).

The event, hosted by OQ Group, brings together ministers, GCC energy leaders, corporate executives and over 2,600 attendees from 43 countries. As a vital platform for collaboration and innovation in the petrochemical sector, the forum underscores the region’s commitment to advancing global industry standards.

Hosting the GPCA Forum reflects OQ’s dedication to driving progress in the petrochemical industry locally, regionally and internationally.

Leveraging Oman’s natural resources, OQ has strategically invested in downstream and petrochemical industries, reaching over 3,000 customers in more than 80 countries, positioning OQ as a leader in the energy sector.

Sheikh Dr. Ali Masoud Al Sunaidy remarked: “We are delighted to inaugurate the 18th edition of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association Forum in the Sultanate of Oman. Hosting this event is a significant milestone that reflects Oman’s ongoing efforts to advance the energy sector, enhance its contribution to GDP and leverage national resources by expanding manufacturing, petrochemical and chemical industries in support of sustainable economic development.”

He emphasized the need for greater collaboration among GCC nations to tackle the challenges of a volatile global economy and foster dialogue with international partners. He highlighted the region’s efforts to transition to clean and alternative energy sources, embrace digitalization, and implement strict measures to reduce carbon emissions, while preserving natural ecosystems and ensuring sustainable growth.

The forum’s exhibition, featuring over 110 companies, showcases groundbreaking petrochemical innovations and advancements.

OQ’s participation highlights its digital transformation journey, reflecting the group’s focus on increasing efficiency and sustainability.

Attendees were introduced to OQ’s strategic initiatives aimed at achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, including investments in alternative energy, energy intensity reduction programmes, and an integrated energy management system.

The forum’s discussions will cover growth, efficiency and sustainability in the petrochemical sector, with CEOs from leading companies sharing their visions for the next decade. Keynote sessions explore themes such as resilience, sustainability, and innovation, addressing global challenges like food security and energy security amidst shifting geopolitical dynamics.

A major highlight of the forum is the SolutionXchange programme, returning for its second edition. The programme focuses on energy management, the circular economy, and digital transformation, providing attendees with unique opportunities to engage with industry leaders.

OQ’s petrochemical sector plays a pivotal role in empowering Oman’s manufacturing and chemical industries. By producing essential raw materials and creating investment opportunities, OQ attracts foreign direct investment and fosters industrial development.

Its integrated approach, covering the entire value chain from resource extraction to specialized chemical production, exemplifies OQ’s commitment to operational excellence, innovation and sustainability.

This year’s forum provides an invaluable platform to showcase the Group’s strategic priorities, advanced technology and efficiency enhancement efforts.
