Scientists from Novosibirsk State University of Organic Chemistry, part of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, have discovered a chemical compound for cancer treatment.
Tests conducted by the researchers have demonstrated the high anti-cancer activity of this chemical compound, which could serve as the basis for developing a new anti-tumor drug.
The press office of Novosibirsk University stated in a statement that the researchers confirmed the high anti-cancer activity of a chemical compound containing cationic antimicrobial peptides (AMP), also known as host defense peptides.
The statement added that the work took several years, during which the scientists were able to demonstrate the high activity of these compounds on cancer cell cultures. Additionally, it became possible to study the mechanisms of its action at the molecular level, which is a prerequisite for the registration of any new anti-cancer drug globally.
