Salalah
The Omani Human Rights Commission, in collaboration with the Children First Association and the Dhofar Governor’s Office, organized today the awareness program “Values and Belonging” aimed at promoting awareness of children’s rights and spreading its culture among those working with children across various sectors, as well as instilling the principles of citizenship and belonging in the hearts of the younger generations.
The program, held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Center for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, targets students, parents, social and psychological specialists, and professionals in educational, health, and legal sectors. Its goal is to equip them with the necessary knowledge about local laws and international legislations, ensuring the integration of roles among various entities and institutions.
Dr. Yahya bin Mohammed Al-Hinai, head of the “Values and Belonging” awareness program team and a member of the Omani Human Rights Commission, stated that the program is being held in Dhofar as its first edition after being launched on February 17 in Muscat as part of a cooperation memorandum between the Omani Human Rights Commission and the Children First Association. He emphasized that raising generations is a shared responsibility that falls on the concerned institutions, with the family being the primary entity to which the child belongs, and it must recognize the importance of authentic national values and the connection to them.
The program included three working papers: the first titled “Efforts and Programs of the Omani Human Rights Commission to Promote and Protect Children’s Rights,” the second titled “Protecting Children from Neglect and Bullying,” and the third addressed “Instilling Values and Principles of Voluntary Work in Children,” in addition to visual presentations and a dialogue and discussion session.
The program’s activities were sponsored by His Excellency Sheikh Tariq bin Khalid Al-Hinai, Wali of Taqah.
