Issues and Opinions in Global Journalism

Capitals

The Omani News Agency has followed some opinions regarding various issues reported by global newspapers through articles published in their pages, which relate to the implications of Donald Trump’s return to power, the benefits of the BRICS group, and the group’s impact on the African continent.

The Turkish newspaper “Daily Sabah” published an article titled: “The Crises the West Imposed on Itself: Trump is the Result, Not the Cause,” by writer “Mohit Ataman.”

The author opened his article by noting that currently, most observers in the West and other parts of the world are discussing the impact of Donald Trump’s return to power in the United States.

Subsequently, most observers began analyzing the meaning of Trump’s policies from a conceptual and theoretical perspective. Many Western academics and intellectuals have attempted to show that the Trump administration and its policies represent an anomaly in the Western world. Thus, they mislead global public opinion.

From the author’s perspective, Trump’s return is not the cause of the rise of power politics, extreme nationalism, great power competition, liberalism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and so on in the West.

On the contrary, Trump’s rise to power is a direct result of all these developments in the West. Therefore, the current crisis in the West and the world is much deeper than Trump’s election.

He emphasized that Western countries continue to look in the wrong direction. They blame refugees, Muslims, China, and the Global South for the negative developments that have no tangible outcome.

Although the West has lost all its values and assets at home, it constantly seeks these values in other countries and civilizations. It is clear that they will not find the right answers because they are looking for the causes of their problems in the wrong places.

He believes that the greatest threat to Western civilization is not the rise of China, political Islam, or any other “harmful” development in the Global South, as claimed by prevailing Western circles. Rather, it is the behavior of Western countries, and the main reason for Western conflicts and crises is their policies.

He stated that although Western countries remain the most attractive destination for refugees worldwide, they have lost much of their allure, pointing out that the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the continuous rise of liberalism and authoritarianism in Western countries reveal the contradictions of Western governments.

The author believes that the current global system is unsustainable, and for a better and more promising world order, Western global powers, especially European countries, must change their policies first.

On another note, writer “Ken Bosaier” believes that the BRICS group will help Africa achieve its dream and contribute to stimulating the new global system.

He began his article published in the “Star” newspaper in Kenya by noting that for countries trying to escape the frightening shadows of the unipolar dominance imposed by the Western world, the year 2024 represents a new dawn for the BRICS as a growing global entity.
