Kuwaiti team behind first remote robotic surgery given Amiri grant

KUWAIT:

Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi welcomed the medical team that performed the first-ever remote robotic surgery in the region, which was supervised by Consultant Urologist Dr Saad Aldousari and the medical team.

During the meeting, the minister conveyed the sincere gratitude of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the medical team and their supervisors. The Amir’s message expressed pride in their achievements and wished them continued success in enhancing Kuwait’s healthcare excellence.

On behalf of His Highness the Amir, the minister presented the medical team with a royal honor, underscoring the leadership’s commitment to supporting national talent and motivating further progress in the medical field. This gesture affirms Kuwait’s continued focus on advancing healthcare, enhancing the country’s medical infrastructure, and raising its profile both regionally and globally.

The Minister of Health also expressed profound appreciation to His Highness the Amir for his unwavering support for the healthcare sector and his dedication to the well-being of Ministry of Health personnel. The Amiri grant reflects His Highness’s vision of encouraging local medical expertise and advancing groundbreaking healthcare initiatives.

The medical team, led by Dr Saad Aldousari, expressed their heartfelt thanks to His Highness the Amir for the support and recognition. They reaffirmed their commitment to utilizing all available resources to improve medical services and deliver top-quality healthcare to citizens and residents of Kuwait.

A robotic breakthrough

The surgery was performed at the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Urology, with the patient present in Kuwait, while the surgical team, based in Shanghai, China, performed the procedure remotely under Dr Saad Aldousari’s supervision. A qualified surgical team was also present in Kuwait to intervene if needed, demonstrating the synergy between advanced technology and skilled medical professionals.

Robotic surgery technology facilitates collaboration with international centers, enabling the treatment of complex cases. It offers significant advantages, including less invasive procedures, reduced pain, minimal bleeding, and shorter hospital stays, contributing to a faster recovery and improved patient experience. This achievement aligns with the Ministry of Health’s strategy to incorporate cutting-edge medical technologies and strengthen partnerships with renowned global health centers. It reflects Kuwait’s ongoing commitment to advancing its healthcare sector and ensuring the highest standards of care for the community.
