Hundreds of students participate in KU’s 47th engineering exhibition

KUWAIT:

Kuwait University, through its Engineering Training and Alumni Center at the College of Engineering and Petroleum, launched the 47th edition of the Engineering Design exhibition on Tuesday at the Sabah Al-Salem University City. The exhibition, which ran under the patronage of Dr Nader Al-Jallal, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, attracted the participation of 263 engineers, showcasing the talents of students in various engineering fields.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the University President, Dr Mohammed Al-Mulla, Vice President for Academic Support Services, emphasized the role of the exhibition in fostering a culture of innovation and creativity. He highlighted how the exhibition provides a platform for students to display their skills in engineering design across multiple disciplines, from civil engineering to computer science.

Dr Al-Mulla pointed out that the event plays an essential role in enriching the local market with innovative engineering projects developed by young Kuwaitis. He also praised the work of academic staff, crediting them with fostering human resource development and skill enhancement across all engineering sectors in the country.

Dr Khaled Al-Hazzaa, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum, expressed the college’s commitment to producing a generation of engineers who are not only skilled but also capable of creating technical solutions to the country’s challenges. He described the exhibition as the largest of its kind, supported by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), and noted that this year’s exhibition featured 67 projects from various departments within the College.

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, which has supported the event for several years, reiterated its commitment to promoting scientific and technological progress in Kuwait. A statement from KFAS explained that the exhibition serves as a vital tool for nurturing scientific research, encouraging creativity, and creating a competitive environment where students can showcase their talents. It also emphasized the importance of supporting the development of sustainable scientific and technological culture, as well as promoting national talent and innovation.

The foundation noted that its ongoing support for the exhibition is driven by the belief in the importance of honoring innovative engineering projects. These initiatives, KFAS stated, contribute significantly to the development of Kuwait, helping address challenges across various sectors. The foundation also commended the exhibition for providing a valuable platform for showcasing the capabilities of Kuwait’s graduating engineers.

The exhibition featured a diverse range of projects, including 13 projects in chemical engineering, 17 in civil engineering, 9 in computer engineering, 12 in electrical engineering, 7 in mechanical engineering, 5 in petroleum engineering, and 4 in industrial engineering. Seven innovative projects across various disciplines were awarded the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences Award, each representing the best project in their respective departments within the college.
