Fines for residency violations under Kuwait’s new residency law, in some cases double the previous fines, will be applied from Sunday, the interior ministry said. Fines for failing to renew a normal residence permit for any reason, will be KD 2 per day in the first month and KD 4 daily for subsequent months. The total fine has been increased to KD 1,200 from KD 600, according to a statement posted on the interior ministry account on X platform.
The same fine applies to violators of temporary residency. For domestic helpers, the fine stays at KD 2 per day for the whole violation period and the maximum total fine also remains KD 600, the ministry said. For violators of all types of visit visas like family visas, business visas, tourist visas and alike, the fine for overstaying is KD 10 per day, the same as before, but the maximum total has been double to KD 2,000 under the new law, the ministry said.
Those who arrive in Kuwait on a work permit but fail to get the residency within the stipulated period will be fined KD 2 daily in the first month and KD 4 daily thereafter with the maximum total at KD 1,200. Parents have four months to get residency for their newborn babies. Fine for failure to do so is KD 2 per day in the first month of violation and KD 4 daily in the subsequent months. The maximum total fine is KD 2,000, the ministry said.
