Muscat, 9 Dec (ONA) — At the behest of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said will preside over the opening ceremony of the Royal Cars Museum at Al Barakah Palace tomorrow (Tuesday).
Upon the Royal directives of His Majesty the Sultan, the museum will be open to members of the public with the aim of highlighting the luxury symbolized in the vehicles, their diversity and the Royal attention accorded to them over the past decades, so that they could serve as a source of inspiration and attraction for enthusiasts.
The museum houses a broad collection of classic and rare vehicles and sports cars, including some personal vehicles of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. It also showcases cars used by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the late Sultan Said bin Taimour and the late Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour.
The idea of the museum was initiated in the early 1970s by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who had a passion for cars and who developed a hobby of keeping classic vehicles, distinctive and rare cars. His hobby started with two cars belonging to the late Sultan Said bin Taimour.
Accordingly, the old vehicles of the two late Sultans were then collected, along with a number of modern and rare cars that were acquired at the time. In 2012, the museum building was set up and it became a place to display such special vehicles, but visits to the museum had been limited to guests of His Majesty the Sultan.
