Oman’s Pavilion Opens at 29th Climate Summit in Azerbaijan

Baku,

The Sultanate of Oman’s pavilion was opened at the 29th Climate Summit in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, in the presence of international negotiators.

Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, the event’s chief guest, said that the Sultanate of Oman’s stance is clear through its full commitment to all the agreed-upon items, whether in previous meetings or in this meeting. He pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman has clarified the practical steps it has taken in the energy transition and capturing carbon emissions.

The minister stated that an important point was raised, that the dialogue cannot be a challenge between oil and gas producers and supporters of the energy transition, as the world needs all types of available energy, with the commitment to utilize clean energy.

He added that the funding file is still pending, and there are always challenges, the biggest of which are funding sources, despite all the commitments announced by many countries.

The Minister of Energy and Minerals said that the Sultanate of Oman’s pavilion at the 29th Climate Summit reviews the energy transition and achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. It also highlights the roles and missions of the Environment Authority and all the environmental indicators achieved in conserving the environment. The pavilion also showcases climate-related action, and projects in the energy sector, from emission reduction to energy transformation, especially the main sectors represented by industry, electricity generation, oil and gas, and transportation.

On the other hand, Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, described the Sultanate of Oman’s participation in the Climate Summit as successful and effective by highlighting national efforts in the field of environmental conservation, and reviewing the efforts made in carbon emission reduction projects, renewable energy and solar energy projects, as well as green hydrogen projects in the Sultanate of Oman.

He added that the Sultanate of Oman’s pavilion at the 29th Climate Summit hosted a discussion panel in which the Ministers of Environment and Climate Change from Arab and foreign countries from different continents, and experts from the United Nations and specialized organizations participated.

He stressed that there is broad participation from the Sultanate of Oman, with more than 200 participants from various state institutions, in confirmation of the unified national action to achieve national climate targets, foremost of which is the National Strategy for Zero Neutrality.

The pavilion highlights the Sultanate of Oman’s renewable and clean energy projects, and introduces the public to policies and trends to achieve net zero carbon emissions.
