The Sultanate of Oman participated in the deliberations of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku.
The conference aims to minimize the risks of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions globally.
Ibrahim Ahmed Al Ajmi, Head of the Omani negotiating team at the 29th Climate Summit, said that the 2050 carbon neutrality plan pursued by the Sultanate of Oman is a national effort within its policies to reduce carbon emissions. He added that the plan earns commendation of the international community.
He said that the COP29 Climate Summit discusses national efforts and international cooperation required to enable countries to achieve the desired goals, enhance strategies and build human capacities that will contribute to achieving ambitious and future visions to preserve the Earth from natural disasters resulting from climate change.
Dr. Ghazi Ali Al Rowas, member of the Omani negotiating team, explained that the Sultanate of Oman participated with groups in the world to negotiate all the amendments and articles approved at this conference.
The proceedings of this international conference address a range of issues, such as providing the necessary financial resources for developing countries to enable them to implement national plans and projects to adapt to the risks of global warming and climate change, achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs), enhance technology transfer and development, and build national capacities in this field.
