National Zero Neutrality Programme Launches Phase 3 Package of Projects, Initiatives

The National Zero Neutrality Programme (NET ZERO) today launched a package of projects and initiatives, codenamed “Neutrality 3”, to expand the scope of action to achieve the 2030 targets in the “National Strategy for an Orderly Transition to Zero Neutrality”.

The launch ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Khamis Saif Al Jabri, Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit.

Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, said that the new package of projects and initiatives launched today includes various target sectors for reducing carbon emissions, including the energy, industry, transport and buildings sectors. They are divided into limited reduction and high reduction projects.

For her part, Dr. Maryam Mohammed Al Busaidi, Head of the National Zero Neutrality Programme gave a visual presentation featuring the developments and achievements of the programme, the projects and initiatives, the main sectors, opportunities and enablers. This is in addition to the endorsement of the national strategy for streamlined transition to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Dr. Maryam pointed out that the “Neutrality 3” package comprises 212 projects and initiatives.

“Neutrality 3” package, projects and initiatives offer an opportunity for expansion into new sectors and fields. In the industrial sector, 16 projects are aimed to improve energy efficiency and encourage the use of electric vehicles. The biofuel and afforestation, 8 new projects will be added within a process to raise the total to 24.

She explained that “Neutrality 3” package, projects and initiatives saw the participation of military and security units, noting that the number of initiatives and projects rose from 108 to 212 and that they cover the sectors of transport, gas, industry, cities and buildings, education and agriculture, in addition to the governorates sector and the military and security units sector.

In the oil and gas sector, three projects were added, bringing the total to 10. The projects cover the areas of carbon capture, electrification of operations and gas recycling.

In the electricity sector, the programme introduced 28 projects. Transport sector projects stood at 36, while a total of 26 projects were added to the cities and buildings sector through sustainable green cities, infrastructure, urban planning and renewable energy. The initiative seeks to transform cities into resource-friendly compounds. The total of environment and economy sector projects stood at 15. In the military and security services sector the number of projects stood at 21, while the education sector received a total of 14 projects.
