The “First International Conference in Vector Control Intervention for Dengue Fever” was opened today in Muscat Governorate. The two-day conference is organised by Muscat Municipality, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health. It was attended by Royal family members, ministers and Dr. Jean Jabbour, Representative of the WHO in the Sultanate of Oman.
Specialists from different countries of the world are taking part in the conference. The participants include international speakers from the WHO and the US Centre for Disease Control, health and environment organizations.
Four plenary sessions will be organized to review experiences and discuss measures to combat dengue fever vectors.
The conference elaborates on vector-borne diseases and methods of prevention and control of the virus vector (Aedes mosquito), in addition to the latest innovations in this field.
The conference looks into better ways to develop national capacities to combat the disease vectors. It will also discuss technological developments in this field and means of establishing the concept of Integrated Vector Management (IVM).
