Bank Muscat Honoured with the Prestigious North Batinah Award for Social Investment

For its successful “Green Sports” programme

Bank Muscat, the leading financial services provider in the Sultanate of Oman, has recently won the North Batinah Award for Social Investment for its “Green Sports” annual programme. The programme falls under the Bank’s key and sustainable programmes launched within its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community service framework. The award ceremony was recently organized by the Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry in the Wilayat of Sohar, the North Batinah Governorate. The event was held under the patronage of Her Highness Dr. Mona Fahd Al Said, Assistant Vice President for International Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University, with the attendance of several esteemed officials from both government and private sectors. During the ceremony, the Bank’s award was handed over to Taya Bait Sabeea, Deputy General Manager, Interior Regions, Bank Muscat. This recognition reflects the successes and achievements of Bank Muscat through its “Green Sports” programme that aims to enhance green sports fields across various governorates in the Sultanate. The award also marks a new milestone for the Bank, adding to its accomplishments in sustainability, social responsibility, and community service.

On this occasion, Taya Bait Sabeea, Deputy General Manager, Interior Regions, Bank Muscat, said: “We are pleased about being recognised with the North Batinah Award for Social Investment for our “Green sports” programme. This recognition represents a new milestone, underscoring the Bank’s leadership stance in corporate social responsibility and community service through launching sustainable programmes that contribute to communal development. The launch of the first edition of this award is an important initiative to promote the concept of social responsibility and community service. It highlights the vital role and achievements of institutions in the area of community service, which not only serves the sustainable development in North Batinah but throughout the Sultanate. Bank Muscat is committed to launching diverse initiatives focused on sustainable development and strategic community programmes aimed at providing long-term benefits to society and the nation, aligning with the Bank’s vision “To serve you better, every day.””

Taya Bait Sabeea further added: “The “Green sports” programme represents one of the primary initiatives the Bank executes in the realm of social responsibility. Since its launch in 2012, it has proven to be a successful example for serving the local community. The programme aims to develop modern sports infrastructure across the Sultanate and enhances the significant role played by community sports teams in encouraging youth to cultivate their talents in various sports, cultural, and community activities. The “Green sports” programme is unique in the field of sustainable development, aiming to implement development projects to improve the infrastructure of community sports fields throughout the country through four categories of support: natural or synthetic turf, floodlights and water desalination equipment in areas facing water salinity. Bank Muscat will uphold its commitment to enhancing the programme and launching sustainable initiatives to strengthen its leadership role in social responsibility and community service.”

The “Green sports” programme is one of the sustainable social responsibility initiatives implemented by the Bank, promoting values of leadership, partnership, and contribution to empowering the community by supporting talented Omani youth in sports and cultural fields. The programme aims to provide support to community teams to enhance sports infrastructure and green spaces across various governorates. These green spaces serve as suitable venues for various social activities, promoting the talents and skills of Omani youth. Bank Muscat is committed to making the programme a successful model for serving the local community by enhancing the role of community sports teams in developing sustainable sports infrastructure in the country.

Over the years, the programme has contributed to strengthening the sports infrastructure in the Sultanate, particularly in football, thus providing an appropriate environment for Omani youth to develop their sports, cultural, and social skills through utilizing these fields for various sports activities and social events. The programme also contributes to the expansion of green areas in all governorates. The Bank takes pride in the significant success achieved by the “Green sports” programme since its launch in 2012. The programme has supported 183 teams and benefited over 50,000 members from these community teams across the Sultanate.

Throughout its successful journey spanning over 40 years, Bank Muscat has steadfastly supported the community by launching various programmes and initiatives that reaffirm its leadership in social responsibility and community service. In this regard, the Bank has been setting strategic plans to further enhance its pioneering role in CSR and running a number of sustainable initiatives that aim to serve the community. Examples of the Bank’s sustainable initiatives comprise the “Maliyat” Academy programme that aims to enhance the financial awareness of school students and empower them with essential money management principles and skills. In addition, the Bank launched its “Irshad” programme which offers financial coaching and guidance to SMEs, startup companies, entrepreneurs, and individuals on how to manage their finances and plan for the future. The Bank also launched its “Al Wathbah SME Academy” which equips the Omani entrepreneurs with the skills necessary to support their businesses. The “Tadhamun” programme is another initiative launched by the Bank and it is set to support social welfare and low-income families. It has served until today over 2000 families since its launch in 2013. As the leading financial institution in the country, the Bank constantly upholds its dedication to sustainability and community service through the ongoing launch of sustainable programmes and initiatives.
