“Oman and Zanzibar Strengthen Bilateral Ties: Focus on Economic, Cultural, and Health Cooperation”
Muscat, 24 Jun (ONA) — Acting in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) today organized the second edition of an initiative titled “Equal National Opportunities”.
At its premises in Muscat, OPAZ hosted 11 innovative business endeavours undertaken by entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Besides highlighting successful innovative projects undertaken by SMEs and entrepreneurs, the Initiative focuses on the growth of the business environment in the Sultanate of Oman in general. It also underscores the success of projects in special economic zones, free zones and industrial cities in particular. An exhibition held on the sidelines of the event showcased the products and services of SMEs and entrepreneurs.
Saleh Hamoud Al Hassani, Adviser to OPAZ Chairman of Board of Directors, said that the event underlines the principle of furnishing a fair and equal commercial environment that motivates investment and economic growth in special economic zones and free zones. He added that the event also seeks to consolidate innovation and leadership, contribute to developing a supportive climate for business growth, activate the role of the private sector and enhance sustainable development.
For his part, Hossam Salam Al Kharousi, a senior official at Oman Future Fund, said that 10 percent of the fund’s capital was allocated to investments within the segment of SMEs and venture capital. He added that the fund targets all investment sectors, except the oil and gas sector and the real estate sector.
