Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Competitiveness Center (NCC), Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, attended the 60th-anniversary celebration of the UN Trade and Development Organization (UNCTAD) in Geneva.
The celebration, themed “Charting a New Development Course in a Changing World,” was graced by the presence of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and high-level government representatives from 120 countries, including leaders and ministers.
The event covered various important topics, with major ministerial sessions focusing on activating industrial policy for trade and development, preparing for future economies, development strategies in a world characterized by successive crises, and restructuring foreign direct investment. Another key session highlighted “Shaping a digital future that serves people and the Earth.”
Dr. Al-Qasabi emphasized the significance of e-commerce as a vital element in the development strategy outlined in the Kingdom Vision 2030. He noted that the Kingdom is expected to reach a volume of approximately SAR260 billion in e-commerce by 2025, reflecting the sector’s significant growth.
Furthermore, Saudi delivery companies handled around 200 million orders last year, with 14,000 logistics warehouses in the Kingdom and a remarkable 152% growth rate in investment in emerging e-commerce companies over the past two years, amounting to SAR1.6 billion.
Dr. Al-Qasabi also highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts in reviewing regulations related to e-commerce and reengineering procedures, requirements, and stipulations to regulate e-commerce.
Additionally, the Kingdom established government agencies such as the E-Commerce Council, which includes 17 government agencies, and the Saudi Center for Economic Business, which provides government services to the business sector, aiming to enhance the ease of doing business online.
