(ONA) — The Ministry of Health today celebrated laying of the foundation stone for Al Nama Hospital project in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The project is currently being carried out at a cost of RO 56.05 million.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of Sultan Salim Al Habsi, Minister of Finance, and attended by Dr.Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.
Dr. Ahmed Salim Al Mandhari, Undersecretary for Planning and Health Organization, said that the number of health establishments within the purviews of the Ministry of Health at the end of 2023 stood at 193 health centres, 21 health complexes and 50 hospitals.
He added that the facilities contain a total of 5,024 beds and provide citizens with top-quality healthcare.
Al Mandhari pointed out that the Ministry is currently embarked on establishing nine new hospitals that will add 1,799 beds in different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Eng. Yousuf Yaqoub Ambu-Ali, Adviser to the Minister of Health for Engineering Affairs, made a presentation about Al Nama Hospital which, he said, occupies a total area of 428,000 square metres. The main building consists of a ground floor and three floors comprising a total of 42,000 square metres, he explained.
Ambu-Ali added that Al Nama Hospital, to be set up within 30 months, will have 152 beds, outpatient clinics and all medical specialties (including an accident and emergency unit, a radiology unit, a physical therapy unit, a nephrology unit and a psychiatry clinic), in addition to a day care department, a dental clinic, surgery wards and internal medicine units.
Next Wednesday, 12 June 2024, the Ministry of Health will hold another ground-breaking ceremony for Samayil Hospital in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, said Ambu-Ali, noting that the hospital will be set up at a cost of RO 45 million.
