“Consumer Protection Authority Ensures Fair Practices Amid Tropical Conditions: A Call for Cooperation and Vigilance”

Officials of the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in its various directorates have intensified their field visits to the markets in the wilayats affected by the tropical situation associated with heavy rain.

These campaigns aim to assess the impact of this tropical condition on specific sectors and services and the availability of high-demand goods. The primary objective is also to ensure that traders do not exploit the tropical situation and cause further harm.

In response to the increased demand in certain sectors, such as heavy equipment rental for cleaning, sediment removal, and transportation, vehicle rental offices, car washes, carpets, sewage suction services, and shops selling household furniture, blankets, and bedspreads, the CPA and its related entities have developed a comprehensive action plan. This plan involves the formation of work teams that operate during both morning and evening periods.

The teams cover the markets in the affected wilayats and are responsible for monitoring and overseeing compliance with regulations. Additionally, a dedicated team has been established to receive consumer reports and communicate with owners of various commercial establishments. This ensures the availability of essential commodities and prevents supplier exploitation or violation of the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations.

Furthermore, shops and service providers have been directed, recommended, and educated about the importance of not exploiting the situation. They are encouraged to offer fair prices as part of their social responsibility. Emphasis has been placed on the necessity of maintaining adequate inventory levels, adhering to price regulations, and ensuring transparency in pricing for consumers.

The CPA emphasises the need for consumers to report any violations that infringe upon their rights or any negative practices they may observe. It encourages cooperation and prioritization of the public interest, urging everyone to abide by regulations and laws. By fostering communication and cooperation, the CPA aims to protect consumers and maintain a fair marketplace during this challenging tropical situation.
