“Oman and Zanzibar Strengthen Bilateral Ties: Focus on Economic, Cultural, and Health Cooperation”
The Oman Debates Center and Qatar Debates Center, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, concluded the inaugural “Oasis of Dialogue” forum on Sunday. The main theme of the forum was “Identity and Tourism in the Gulf,” and it was held under the auspices of His Excellency Marwan bin Turki Al Said, the esteemed Governor of Dhofar.
During the main dialogue session, His Excellency Marwan bin Turki Al Said highlighted the significance of the 11 governorates in Oman, representing a blend of identity, culture, customs, and traditions, connecting people to their surroundings. He emphasized the role of tourism in enhancing the economy, aligning with the vision of “Oman 2040.” The development of the Salalah Festival into the Dhofar Season stemmed from the uniqueness of the governorate with its four environments: plains, coast, mountains, and desert. The season has become comprehensive, providing opportunities for individuals and institutions to participate.
Furthermore, the Governor noted cultural commonalities among Gulf countries and highlighted the Unified Gulf Visa as a means to enhance these connections.
Mr. Hassan Al Zawadi, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Projects and Heritage in Qatar, spoke about the integration of tourism and sports sectors in 2008 to strengthen cultural values and identity. He emphasized the role of Qatar in showcasing its culture during the FIFA World Cup and promoting Arab culture globally.
Mr. Saad Al Rumeihi, Chairman of the Qatar Press Center, pointed out that Oman and Gulf countries possess integrated tourism elements, qualifying them to compete with Western nations in tourism, identity, and culture. He highlighted the significant role of social media influencers in conveying tourism culture.
His Highness Sayyid Feras bin Fattik Al Said, Chairman of the Oman Debates Center, expressed that the forum is a crucial step in promoting the role of debates in Oman, providing a platform for youth to express their thoughts on vital issues aligning with current transformations in the Gulf region. The chosen theme, “Identity and Tourism in the Gulf,” reflects the significant changes in tourism and cultural identity within Gulf countries. The dialogue aims to contribute to a better understanding of cultural and economic transformations, fostering shared understanding and directing creative solutions to enhance economic and cultural cooperation in the region.
