
The informative seminar on “Human Trafficking – Its Forms and Combatting Methods,” organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the significant impact of this crime on both the local and international levels. The seminar highlighted the repercussions of this crime, leading to an increase in crime rates, financial burdens on the state, and media pressures.
Ms. Maisa bint Khamis Al Shibliya, Senior Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairperson of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, presented a visual presentation reviewing international efforts to combat this crime through the “Palermo Convention” and its three protocols, including the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons.
The presentation also addressed the establishment of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, outlining its responsibilities in developing action plans and coordinating with relevant authorities, including the enactment of international legislation related to the crime and methods of trafficking, along with the development of care and rehabilitation programs for victims to facilitate their rapid integration into society.
