Transport Ministry Launches Taxi Service Awareness Campaign

Muscat,

(ONA) — The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology today launched a taxi service campaign under the slogan “Know Your Fare”.

Many government departments participated in the three-phase campaign, which seeks to regulate the service of taxis, to secure the rights of customers and taxi drivers and to optimize the use of technical apps.

The first phase began today, 1 October 2023, and it targets taxis operating at airports. The second phase will begin on 1 November 2023 and it targets taxis operating in hotels, commercial centres and ports. The third phase will begin on 1 January 2024 and it targets taxis operating in public places.

Earlier, the Ministry awarded licenses for two taxi apps (Otaxi and Oman Taxi app) for the regulation of taxi service at Muscat International Airport, after the two apps met conditions stated in the Land Transport Law.

The Ministry will launch an all-accommodating app codenamed “Aber”, which serves as a single window comprising all licensed applications for Oman taxis. The app “Aber”, which means “by-passer”) is distinguished for ease of access to all apps to which taxi clients might wish to subscribe.
