“Oman and Zanzibar Strengthen Bilateral Ties: Focus on Economic, Cultural, and Health Cooperation”
Together with Omantel, Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, recently conducted a series of workshops with local universities focusing on the transformative power of 5G connectivity in the sultanate and stimulate local students’ interest in learning 5G technology.
Huawei has been a pioneer of 5G network development both in Oman and internationally. To date, Huawei has signed more than 60 commercial contracts for 5G with leading global carriers, and is building a more mature 5G ecosystem through dedicated open labs where new ideas in the field can be tested and refined, a press release said.
The workshops were conducted over the past week at five universities – National University, Shinas College of Technology, Sohar University, Ibra College of Technology, and the Higher College of Technology (HCT).
Held under the theme of ‘5G is ON’, the sessions provided students with a deeper insight into 5G technology and the advancement of digital applications in the 5G era. Moreover, the workshops shed light on how university students can pursue advanced education and professional careers in the ICT field, which is rapidly expanding as more businesses and countries embrace digital transformation.
Omantelrecognises that 5G will mean a quantum leap forward for the public and companies providing services in areas such as logistics, healthcare, and oil and gas.
