The data shows that 16,487 people were recruited in the sector until the mid of 2019. Of the recruited, 2,140 were Omanis.
The hotel sector topped in the tourism industry in terms of providing job opportunities offered to nationals with 4,557 vacancies. These included 2,701 direct employment and 855 indirect ones.
The specialised technical team at MoT drafted an action plan categorising companies operating in tourism sector in terms of commitment to the Omanisation ratio and finding jobs suitable for Omanis.
After completing the required database, the team started work last March by holding meetings with the concerned companies and establishments to discuss and approve timetables for training and recruiting qualified Omanis.
These meetings resulted in providing 375 Omanis with jobs in tourism between March and July this year. MoT also concluded an agreement with Oman Tourism College, National Training Institute and a number of tourism and travel companies to recruit Omanis as tourist guides after training.
In cooperation with the competent authorities, the technical team at MoT conducts a continuous follow-up of training and employment. The team prepares periodic reports on the challenges faced and the recommendations. MoT has also called for tourism partners to participate in the first job fair of tourism sector which will be held soon.
