Belarusian Minister Explores Investment Opportunities in North Al Batinah

Sohar,

Alexei Bogdanov, Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade in the Republic of Belarus, today visited North Al Batinah Governorate to learn about investment opportunities and major economic projects in North Al Batinah Governorate, including the Wilayat of Sohar.

During the visit, Bogdanov and his accompanying delegation held a meeting with Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al Busaidi, Wali of Sohar. The meeting, held at the office of the Governor of North Al Batinah, was attended by businessmen and directors of commercial establishments and ports in the governorate.

During the meeting, the Belarusian minister listened to a detailed account about the current investment projects and future opportunities in the sectors of ports, agriculture, fisheries and mining, in addition to petroleum and converting industries at Sohar Port, the Free Zone and Sohar Industrial City and logistic services provided for those projects.

Bogdanov and his delegation took note of the progress made in the establishment of the railway network connecting the Wilayat of Sohar and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE)—a stretch of 303 kilometres. They also had a close look at salient features of the governorate’s ports in Shinas, Liwa, Sohar and A’Suwaiq and their related commercial and economic activities.

In addition to emphasis on economic diversity and sustainable development, the Belarusian delegation was briefed about the diversity of heritage, environmental, cultural and tourism destinations that abound in North Al Batinah Governorate.

Bogdanov and his accompanying delegation later visited Sohar Port and Free Zone, where they were briefed about major commercial and industrial projects, both in the port and the free zone, in addition to logistic services, container handling, and advanced industrial activities in the sectors of energy, metals and petrochemicals.

The briefing covered investment opportunities and land leasing at Sohar Free Zone, industrial projects, light converting industries, logistics services or other commercial services that can be established in the governorate.

Bogdanov and his delegation also learned about the incentives provided to investors and the business community, as well as the one-stop-shop system that facilitates the finalization of all procedures (clearance, permits, licenses and approvals) in one place.
