The Ministry of Labour announced that it achieved 54 percent of the 2024 Employment Plan during the first half of the year, with 14,074 getting jobs in the public and private sectors, either through direct employment or replacement of expatriates.
The Ministry of Labour pointed out that 6,963 Omanis were employed in the public sector out of a target number of 10,000 while 7,111 out of 16,000 received jobs in the private sector.
Providing further details, the ministry explained that 305 out of 2,000 Omanis completed the employment-linked training programme in the government sector, while 1,107 out of a target number of 7,000 completed a similar programme in the private sector. It added that 44.25 percent of the on-the-job-training and employment programme was completed, benefiting a total of 15,486 out of the plan’s target number of 35,000 Omanis.
The Ministry of Labour underscored the significance of ongoing public and private sector partnership which, it said, was based on a thoughtful approach and a planned workflow that went in line with the Royal directives of His Majesty the Sultan envisaging employment as a basic pillar of the national economy.
The Ministry expressed its determination to press ahead with its plan to generate employment opportunities for citizens in various sectors, regulate the labour market and raise the percentage of the national workforce in the public and private sectors. The ministry performs this mission as “a national responsibility to achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040”.
