Muscat – Ministry of Labour (MoL) has announced that non-Omanis will be granted temporary work permits as part of its efforts to revitalise commercial activity and enhance visitor services during khareef in Dhofar.
In a statement, MoL said, ‘The ministry will grant temporary work permits to bring in expatriate workers. With an influx of tourists, this action will help employers and also regulate labour market. Additionally, the decision also ensures a safe and productive season for all while avoiding violations and incurring penalties.’
Dhofar Municipality has announced that this year’s activities during Khareef Dhofar will run till September 20, doubling the usual duration of activities.
This extended season aims to attract more tourists and enhance the governorate’s ability to manage larger crowds while offering a wider range of events and experiences across existing and new locations.
Dhofar saw an increase in visitors last season – 962,000 compared to 813,000 in 2022. This year’s visitor count is expected to exceed 1mn.
