On October 25th, in Muscat, Oman, an event celebrating Omani Youth Day is being organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dhi Yazan bin Haitham Al Said, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth. The event will take place at the Al Seeb Promenade and will include the announcement of the winners of the Excellence Award as a tribute to the youth’s efforts in serving the youth and society, as well as effective institutional initiatives in supporting youth.
This event emphasizes the significance of youth and their active role in nation-building and progress. It will feature an exhibition showcasing the initiatives and achievements of Omani youth and will run for three days.
For this year’s Excellence Award, there were 50 projects submitted in the five categories specified. In the individual category, 12 projects were submitted, while 15 projects were presented in the youth initiatives category. The youth institutions category had 7 projects, and 3 projects fell under the category of civil society institutions. Similarly, there were companies in the private sector supporting the youth sector, with 3 projects in this category. Ten projects were excluded for not aligning with the award’s designated categories and areas.
The Excellence Youth Award for 2023 is an extension of the recognition of outstanding Omani youth for the years 2014-2022, coinciding with Omani Youth Day on October 26. The award aims to highlight the efforts of Omani youth in serving both the youth and the community, along with initiatives from institutions that support youth and promote fair competition among youth and institutions in providing valuable community services.
The award includes five categories: individuals, youth initiatives, youth institutions, civil society institutions, and private sector companies dedicated to social investment and youth support.
The award covers five domains, including digital economy, digital media, environmental initiatives, entrepreneurship, and workforce development. These domains seek to support the strategic priorities of “Environment and Natural Resources” under Oman’s Vision 2040.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth has launched various programs and activities through the Directorate General for Youth to cater to the needs and talents of the youth. Programs like the “Mastaa’d” (Skills Development Camp) target approximately 1,000 young people from different Omani governorates and aim to discover and develop their abilities, provide a stimulating environment for skill development, and enhance their skills and capabilities.
The “Youth Ambassadors” program aims to equip Omani youth with the necessary skills to represent Oman in regional and international forums. It offers training courses in various fields, including diplomacy, leadership, media, and cultural identity.
The “Shababuna Shukran” (Our Youth, Thank You) project honors Omani youth who have achieved high rankings in regional and international competitions, both individually and collectively, across various fields. This project aims to showcase the achievements of young Omani talents and motivate them to continue excelling and promoting a culture of excellence, innovation, quality, and precision.
Overall, these initiatives and programs reflect the Omani government’s commitment to empowering its youth and recognizing their contributions to the development of the nation.
