“Oman and Zanzibar Strengthen Bilateral Ties: Focus on Economic, Cultural, and Health Cooperation”
Paris, France – June 19, 2023 – Riyadh, the capital city of the Kingdom, revealed its ambitious plan for Riyadh Expo 2030 during an official reception ceremony hosted by the Royal Commission of Riyadh. Attended by delegates from 179 member countries of the International Bureau of Exhibitions, the event highlighted the Expo’s theme: “Together We Look Forward to the Future.”
Positioned near the developing King Salman International Airport, the exhibition site will provide convenient access for visitors arriving through the airport. The state-of-the-art “Riyadh Train” network and modern road infrastructure will ensure seamless transportation within the Expo, enhancing the overall experience.
With 226 pavilions designed in a globe-like formation, the exhibition aims to provide equal opportunities for participants while reflecting Riyadh’s rich history, culture, and environmental consciousness. Pavilions will be arranged flexibly based on the meridians of each country, symbolizing the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering global cooperation.
Visitors will enjoy fully shaded corridors inspired by Riyadh’s architectural heritage, along with a modern green oasis in the “Wadi Al-Sully” tributary. At the heart of the master plan, a landmark representing “responsibility to protect the planet” will stand, surrounded by three pavilions embodying the exhibition’s sub-themes: “Prosperity for All,” “Climate Action,” and “A Better Tomorrow.”
Moreover, the Expo will feature the C3 Collaborative Change Corner, an innovation hub for scientific, social, and intellectual advancements. This corner will drive the changes that shape our future, both during the seven-year journey leading to the Expo and beyond.
Lamia Bint Abdulaziz Al Muhanna, a member of the Riyadh Expo 2030 master plan team, expressed excitement about the flexible, interactive, and sustainable nature of the Expo, promising an exceptional experience for over 40 million visitors. The Expo will provide unlimited opportunities for participating countries, and selected pavilions will be repurposed to serve as schools, clinics, and research centers.
Nof Bint Majid Al Muneef, another member of the master plan team, emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to making Riyadh Expo 2030 environmentally friendly, striving for zero carbon emissions. The site will be powered by clean energy, with a focus on resource efficiency, biodiversity, waste management, and recycling. The exhibition will foster partnerships to finance international projects and promote sustainability.
Riyadh Expo 2030 aims to be the most sustainable and impactful Expo to date, aligning with the Kingdom’s climate commitments and fostering a positive environmental impact in Riyadh. The master plan sets a new standard for sustainability, incorporating urban afforestation, the use of treated water, and the exploration of alternative energy sources. After the Expo concludes, the site will be repurposed to develop an innovative urban model that encourages sustainability, innovation, and creativity throughout the Kingdom.
