The American University of Sharjah (AUS) has signed a cooperation agreement with technology company “MEI-COM” to enhance the open and interoperable communication technology system in the future, including 5G, 6G, and beyond, and to develop smart digital solutions and the Internet of Things. The agreement also involves sharing knowledge and rich experiences with AUS students.
The agreement includes various areas of collaboration, such as exchanging specialized knowledge related to AUS students’ majors to maximize their benefits. MEI-COM will provide internal training for students, which is a mandatory requirement for their graduation, to expand their education and provide them with the necessary practical experience for the job market. It also involves joint supervision of selected graduation projects and research projects. Both parties will participate in research and development initiatives focusing on advanced open and interoperable radio systems, digital solutions, the Internet of Things, applying for research and development grants, and benefiting from the expertise of AUS faculty.
The signing ceremony of the agreement took place as part of the “Elite” program implemented by the College of Engineering at AUS, aiming to graduate future engineers and drive the digital transformation. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Fadi Ahmed Aloul, Dean of the College of Engineering at AUS, Engineer Hani Saleh Shalabi, Head of Operations at MEI-COM, and several officials from both institutions.
Dr. Aloul expressed his happiness with this collaboration, stating, “We are pleased to collaborate with MEI-COM in line with our mission to provide exceptional educational and training opportunities for students at the College of Engineering. Establishing this strategic partnership will enhance the academic journey of our students and enable them to progress in a rapidly evolving technological world. Through knowledge exchange, innovation promotion, and collaboration in joint research, we can pave the way for a brighter future for our students.”
Engineer Shalabi stated, “This partnership with the American University of Sharjah represents a strategic support in bridging the gap between industry and academic institutions in the United Arab Emirates, the Middle East, and Africa. We will share our latest information and communication technology solutions and technological expertise with AUS students and graduates. This collaboration in research, development, and prototype building will support and enhance innovation in the UAE and the region.”
The College of Engineering at AUS collaborates through its “Elite” program with various industrial institutions, prioritizing community engagement and education focused on students, research, and innovation. It provides students with practical experience, access to industry resources, and communication with industry leaders. The college is committed to preparing its students for successful and leading engineering careers.
