The National Space Science Agency participated in the meeting “Launch of the Space and Global Health Network” by invitation from the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).
This meeting is part of the series of meetings of the sixty-sixth session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which aims to showcase the international efforts in harnessing space and its technologies for peaceful applications that support the Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting focused on the efforts of the United Kingdom and Switzerland in launching networks that integrate the space sector with healthcare services. It also featured the presentation of the “Implementome” initiative, which provides a digital platform for health data, allowing users to browse and analyze the data. The platform also includes a map that allows users to locate various healthcare institutions and search the available database.
The UK Space Biomedical and Medical Sciences Association presented its main objectives in improving communication and collaboration among institutions and individuals interested in scientific research, healthcare, awareness campaigns, and educational initiatives related to life in space, biomedical sciences, and manned space missions.
Several members of the Bahrain Space Team represented the Kingdom of Bahrain in this meeting. Amina Al-Balooshi, the space engineer, stated that the participation of the National Space Science Agency in United Nations meetings is an important opportunity to bridge perspectives among member states and learn about the latest advancements and applications in space science. She emphasized the increasing global activity in utilizing outer space and its resources for peaceful purposes, scientific progress, and achieving sustainable development goals.
Engineer Ali Al-Mahmoud mentioned that such participation contributes to the exchange of ideas and experiences among different institutions working in the space sector, which enhances national knowledge and expertise. He also highlighted the continuous commitment of the agency’s management to participate in all meetings and workshops, recognizing the importance of international cooperation in the space sector and ensuring the prominence of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s name and its efforts in all relevant aspects to become a leading country in the space sector.
Since 2017, the National Space Science Agency has been the official and sole representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the membership of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, and the affiliated committees and working groups. The agency has participated in various aspects, including technical, legal, and regulatory domains.
