“Oman and Zanzibar Strengthen Bilateral Ties: Focus on Economic, Cultural, and Health Cooperation”
The Ministry of Social Development celebrated today the graduation of 84 male and female graduates from the first batch of individuals with intellectual, visual, physical, mild hearing, and moderate hearing disabilities. The ceremony took place at the Oman Theater in the College of Banking and Financial Studies.
The event was sponsored by Her Excellency Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al-Najjar, the Minister of Social Development, in the presence of Eng. Awatif bint Mahraib Al-Salman, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Specialized Human Development Center, and several ministry officials.
Engineer Abdulrahman bin Hameed Al-Yahyai, CEO of the Omani Energy Society “Opal” (the strategic partner of the “Be with Us for Them” initiative), stated that the group of graduates with disabilities who were graduated today spent over 9 months in training. A total of 84 graduates, both males and females, were awarded certificates, and 55 job opportunities were provided for them in the private sector. The initiative will continue for 5 years, with 100 graduates being included annually.
He added that the “Be with Us for Them” initiative aims to qualify and train individuals with intellectual, visual, physical, mild hearing, and moderate hearing disabilities between the ages of 18 and 30 for a period of 36 weeks, with their employment in various private sector institutions in customer service, office management, document printing and copying, and electronic archiving.
The CEO of the Omani Energy Society further explained to the Oman News Agency that the initiative aims to improve and develop work systems within the concept of corporate social responsibility, highlight the role of government, private, and civil entities in supporting people with disabilities, and create an integrated institutional community partnership system that enhances identity, citizenship, cohesion, and social solidarity.
