Muscat: The General Federation of Oman Workers has recorded 19 reports of violations of workers’ rights within a span of 5 days.
According to the federation, the reports included deduction of wages, forcing workers to go on unpaid leave and deduction of quarantine periods from annual leave.
A statement issued online by the federation said: “General Federation confirms the continuous monitoring of a number of reports and violations of the decisions of the Supreme Committee to deal with the coronavirus.”
According to the data shared by the federation, in the period from April 19-23 2020, 19 reports of various violations were monitored.
“The federation calls on the private sector institutions to comply with the decisions of the Supreme Committee and to refrain from laying off the national workforce and to negotiate with workers in the affected institutions with the aim of ensuring business continuity and preserving workers,” the statement added.
