The University Medical City and the World Health Organization (WHO) explored collaboration opportunities in health services and medical and scientific education. This discussion took place during a meeting between Dr. Siham bint Salem Al-Sananiyah, CEO of the new Medical City, and Dr. Hanan Balkhi, Regional Director for WHO Eastern Mediterranean Health Experts.
The meeting reviewed areas of cooperation to support WHO’s initiatives aimed at enhancing the capabilities of healthcare professionals in the Eastern Mediterranean region. It also explored the possibility of leveraging Omani expertise and the specialized research and training programs offered by the University Medical City.
The CEO of the University Medical City emphasized the commitment of the Medical City’s units to providing high-quality medical services according to international standards. She highlighted their dedication to ongoing innovation and development in research and academic training for medical personnel in collaboration with renowned regional and international research and academic institutions.
She also expressed the University Medical City’s interest in sharing specialized knowledge and expertise with counterparts in the Eastern Mediterranean region through hosting researchers and trainees, publishing scientific research, and offering specialized training courses.
For her part, Dr. Hanan Balkhi, Regional Director of WHO for the Eastern Mediterranean, stated that the visit aims to strengthen cooperation between WHO and the Sultanate of Oman in research and training, utilizing Omani expertise across various medical fields at the regional level and sharing Oman’s successful healthcare experiences on a broader scale. She emphasized the organization’s aim to localize Arab medical expertise and ensure the sustainability of health services in the region.
