Riyadh,
Nawaf bin Mohammed Al Maawda, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Affairs, participated in Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) 3rd International Conference and Exhibition, titled “Constructional Projects & Development Disputes: Challenges and Opportunities”.
The conference is organised by SCCA, in partnership with United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
In the first discussion panel titled “Legal & Economic landscape – Regional Trends and International Perspectives on Commercial ADR”, the minister highlighted the legal system related to arbitration in the kingdom and its support to institutional and free arbitration.
Al Maawda affirmed Bahrain’s legal and procedural structure, which supports arbitration.
He noted the legal amendments that allowed English to be a used language before court in 2021, contributing to the development of commercial and banking transactions and the requirements of contemporary international trade, especially in international or regional complicated financial and commercial cases.
The minister highlighted that this advanced legal system allows arbitration-related disputes to be heard in all courts in Bahrain, including the Court of Cassation, providing a supportive legal and judicial environment for arbitration as an alternative and effective means of dispute resolution.
