Geneva,
(BNA): Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed, Secretary-General of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF), and Hassan Moosa Shafaei, Bahrain’s Acting Chargé d’Affaires to the United Nations in Geneva, participated in the Global Refugee Forum (GRF).
Co-organsied by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Swiss government, the GRF was attended by heads of state and ministers, in addition to more than 3500 participants from various countries.
Addressing the forum, Dr. Al Sayed conveyed greetings and appreciation from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to the participants, as well as HM’s wishes of success for the major global event.
He indicated that the RHF’s work is based on HM King Hamad’s directives, and the support of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, paying tribute to His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, for his efforts to lead the RHF’s humanitarian efforts.
Dr. Al Sayed asserted that Bahrain shares the world’s responsibility towards refugees, who are victims of natural disasters, wars and conflicts.
In this regard, he highlighted the kingdom’s humanitarian contributions over the past few years, including the building of 15 schools, 10 medical centres, and 10 reverse osmosis units for water purification, as well as the digging of 10 artesian water wells, and building public libraries, in addition to delivering hundreds of tons of relief materials such as medicine, food, and tents, noting that Bahrain’s aid has benefited Palestine, Sudan, Somalia, Nepal, the Philippines, Egypt, and many countries without discrimination.
He indicated that the RHF’s success in delivering materials and serving refugees is the outcome of its creative approach in implementing projects to provide the best health, educational and development services to refugees and displaced persons while preserving the dignity of the beneficiaries.
Regarding the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Al Sayed affirmed that Bahrain was one of the first countries to bring its humanitarian aid into Gaza, in addition to the signing of four agreements to treat children with cancer and the wounded in Jordanian hospitals, as well as the building of a field hospital in Gaza, a 500-unit residential complex and a school.
He added that the donation campaign launched by the RHF will continue with the launch of a new creative initiative to obtain new medical devices or expensive devices in good condition, from government or private hospitals to hospitals in Gaza, which are in dire need of them, following the destruction of most of the hospitals there.
