“Oman and Zanzibar Strengthen Bilateral Ties: Focus on Economic, Cultural, and Health Cooperation”

(ONA) — Represented by the Council of Oman, the Sultanate of Oman is taking part in meetings of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in Luanda, Angola.
During the meetings, which started on 22 October 2023 and will continue until 27 October, Oman will also take part in the 212th session of IPU Governing Council, as well as meetings of its executive, permanent and specialized committees.
Sheikh Dr. Al Khatab Ghalib Al Hinai, Deputy Chairman of the State Council, represented Oman’s delegation at the opening ceremony of the meetings.
Besides general assembly meetings, Oman’s delegation will also participate in meetings of the Permanent Committee for Sustainable Development, the Permanent Committee for Democracy and Human Rights, the Association of Secretaries-General of National Parliaments, the Permanent Committee for International Peace and Security, a coordination meeting of the Islamic Group and the Arab Group and meetings of the Permanent Committee for United Nations Affairs and a Forum for Women Parliamentarians.
The IPU general assembly’s agenda comprises discussions on gender equality and ways to stop all forms of human trafficking and human rights violations.
This is in addition to discussion panels on other topics, including the social impact of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, enabling parliamentarians to participate in dialogue and legislations to achieve peace and means of ensuring global food security.
