Persistence of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in Job Descriptions Remains Robust Amid Growing Debate
The utilization of terms like “diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusion” in job listings continues to demonstrate resilience, according to findings by Textio, a versatile recruitment tool. Researchers observed a consistent year-over-year increase in the inclusion of these terms. Specifically, the term “diversity” saw a 1% rise, “inclusion” experienced a 0.2% uptick, and the encompassing DEI framework increased by 0.1%.
Commenting on this sustained growth, Kieran Snyder, the Co-founder and CEO of Textio, emphasized that “current public hiring data illustrates the unwavering commitment of the majority of organizations.” This data implies that organizations are not shying away from emphasizing these crucial aspects in their hiring strategies.
However, Textio’s comprehensive analysis indicates that only approximately one-third of job descriptions incorporate the concept of diversity, with an even smaller fraction—only one-fifth—mentioning inclusion. The mention of equity is even rarer than that. Despite the incremental increases in the usage of DEI terminology, these figures highlight the ongoing need for greater incorporation of these principles within job descriptions.
