Cairo,
The Arab Observatory for Human Rights (AOHR) praised the adoption by the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council of a draft resolution aimed at combating religious hatred.
In a statement, the Observatory considered this adoption as a step on the right path to correct the disgraceful behavior that has exacerbated in recent times regarding the assault on sanctities, especially the Holy Quran.
The Observatory called for the urgent implementation of this adoption to protect the sanctities from intellectual terrorism and extremism, and to spread the spirit of tolerance and mutual understanding between cultures and religions, as well as respect of the freedom of religious beliefs and confronting hate speech.
This incudes adherence to the principles of respect for religions and cultures, and human values set by international law.
It is of importance to strengthen the Arab, regional and international cooperation to confront intellectual extremism and lay the foundations for peace and stability in light of the current challenges facing the world, the Observatory also stressed.
It is worth noting that the UN’s Human Rights Council had adopted the draft resolution “combating religious hatred that encourages discrimination, hostility or violence.”
